If you want to study in the UK or sponsor a student, you need to know about the Student visa and the Student sponsor licence.
A Student visa is for people who are 16 or over and want to study at a licensed education provider in the UK To apply for a Student visa, you need to have an offer of a place on a course, enough money to support yourself and pay for your course, and a good level of English
You also need to have consent from your parents if you’re 16 or 17. The cost of applying for a Student visa is £363 from outside the UK. The length of your stay depends on the length and level of your course.
A Student sponsor is an education provider that can sponsor international students to study in the UK. Some types of institution (academies and state-funded schools) are not eligible to apply for a Student sponsor licence.
To apply for a Student sponsor licence, you need to meet certain requirements, such as having suitable premises, staff and courses, and having effective policies and procedures to monitor your sponsored students. You also need to pay a fee of £536 or £1476 depending on the size of your institution. As a Student sponsor, you can issue Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
To eligible students who want to apply for a Student A CAS is your way of confirming that you want to sponsor a student and that they meet the requirements for a valid visa application. You also have certain duties and responsibilities as a Student sponsor, such as reporting any changes or problems with your sponsored students to UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).
